TELL CITY –
Evelyn M. Goffinet, 94, died Aug. 1, 2024, at Brickyard Nursing Home in Tell City.
Evelyn was born June 1, 1930, in Terre Haute to Ralph C. and Mary (Church) James. She spent her childhood in Mount Pleasant.
She graduated from Oil Township High School as the class valedictorian in 1948.
She was united in marriage to Leonard A. Goffinet Aug. 29, 1950, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold. They had a happy marriage of nearly 71 years until his death June 15, 2021. Early in her marriage she worked at Werner’s Drugstore in Tell City. She also did some babysitting later. She was an avid reader and euchre player and loved to travel, especially to Florida, Opryland and Peoria, Ill.
Surviving are her children Linda (Tom) Freeman of Tell City, Larry Goffinet of Tell City, and Cheryl (Doug) Reiners of Evansville; grandchildren Wendy Freeman (Michael Chann) of Owensboro, Ky., Craig Freeman of Tell City, and Kelly Freeman-Gray (Bobby Gray) of Tell City; great-grandchildren Rory and Juniper Chann of Owensboro, Ky.; and step-great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Will Chann.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard and her parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Church in rural Tell City where she was a member for 73 years. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 4, from 3 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.
