Lila Covey

Derby, Indiana Lila M. Covey, 85, passed away January 22, 2018 at Oakwood Health Campus. She was born April 11, 1932 in Perry County, daughter of the late Edgar and Lulia (Popp) Carter. Also preceding her in death was a son, Edgar Lee "Sonny" Carter, two daughters in infancy, Donna and Marsha, grandsons, Michael Crook and James L. "Jimmy" Carter and sister, Mary Lou Carpenter. Lila was united in marriage December 8, 1951 to Rodney Covey, who survives. She was a member of Lilly Dale Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School, enjoyed cooking for church functions and singing at special occasions with Sister Kate. She looked forward to summers where she would serve as a counselor at Woodland Bible camp in Linton, Indiana. She had worked for General Electric for 19 years. She also enjoyed being a substitute teacher, gardening, canning, quilting, reading, her pets, bird watching, especially hummingbirds. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rodney Covey, daughters, Betty "Woody" Smallwood, Louisville and Lisa Crook (Tommy), Derby, sisters, Ruth Schroeder, Tell City and Evelyn Geer, Rineyville, Kentucky, several nieces and nephews, five grandchildren, Kandy Weatherholt, Lou Ann Carter, Robert Neeley, Michael Stone and Mary Barnes and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel with burial in Lilly Dale Cemetery. Bro. Eddie Olberding will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Lilly Dale Church or the National Kidney Foundation.
