Martha Richard

Tell City, Indiana Martha A. Richard, 93, passed away Monday, October 12, 2009 in Evansville. She was born March 8, 1916 in St. Louis, MO daughter of the late Roy and Mary (Burding) Fuquay. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Irvin Richard and a twin sister Mildred Earp. She was a registered nurse graduating from St. Mary's Hospital, in Evansville, in 1937. On Labor Day, in 1937, Martha came to Tell City and worked for Dr. N.A. James in his private hospital in Tell City. She then became the first nurse at General Electric, formerly Ken-Rad, for 38 years, retiring on July 17, 1981. A member of St. Paul Catholic Church, she was also a charter member of Daughters of Isabella, V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #2939, life member of D.A.V. Auxiliary, past secretary and two-time president of American Legion Auxiliary # 213, R.N. Club, and past president Parley of Legion Auxiliary. She taught home nursing and first aid for 25 years for the American Red Cross and was a charter member of Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary volunteers. Martha enjoyed making quilts and growing roses. She is survived by: Son, David Richard of Ann Harbor, MI Brother, Milton ""Skip"" Fuquay, Evansville, IN Several Nieces and Nephews A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 16, 2009, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rev. Paul Etienne will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM until 9:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. There will be a Daughters of Isabella memorial service at 6:45 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 East 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128-6064
