Robert Lee “Bob” Dixon, 78, formerly of Perry County, passed away on December 11, 2025, at his home in Owensboro, Kentucky.
He was born in Cannelton on March 18, 1947, and attended Myers Grade School and Cannelton High School. Bob enjoyed working in the coal industry where he experienced all facets of coal operations from mining to barge loading. After working in the coal industry Bob worked for Reynolds Aluminum company in their Bauxite mining operations in Guyana. This transition led to him finding his favorite pastime of exploring the jungles of South America looking for the elusive gold and diamond finds that satisfied his lifelong passion for adventure.
Later in life, Bob enjoyed all forms of stock car racing from local tracks to NASCAR which connected well with his passion for tinkering on anything with an engine. Bob also enjoyed his favorite TV shows Gunsmoke, MASH, Gold Rush, and every classic car restoration show available to him.
Bob is survived by his wife Sandy (Thompson) Dixon; sons: Bob (Susan) Dixon, Aaron (Shelly) and Troie Dixon, Zach Dixon, Ty Dixon and Cole Dixon; daughter, Robin Dixon; sister, Theresa Wagne; grandchildren Nolan and Drew Dixon, Spencer and Carter Dixon and Ashlynn, Logan, and Caleb Gaynor and Levi, Ayvah, Mason, Hayleigh and Wren Dixon. Bob is also survived by brother-in-law, Bill (Debbie) Thompson and sister-in-law, Becky Payne of Owensboro, KY.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Artie (Ross) Dixon and brothers, John Thomas, James, and Jack Dixon.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 18, 2026, at New Cliff Cemetery in Cannelton. Service times will be posted in April. Bob’s family and friends are welcome to attend.
