St. Croix, Indiana
Derrel S. “Junior” Flamion, Jr., 82, passed away on March 8, 2024, peacefully at his home, surrounded by family and dear friends.
He was born on November 30, 1941, the son of Derrel, Sr. and Hazel (Graves) Flamion.
On August 27, 1966, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Junior was united in marriage to Carol Quinlin. Together, they shared their lives for 57 years.
He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #1172.
Junior graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Oakland City and obtained his Master’s from Indiana University. He began his teaching career in 1965 at Perry Central Schools, which was the last year of the old school building. There, he dedicated his life to teaching and enjoyed all Commodore sporting events. You could find him on the sideline at football games with the "chain gang", at the score table at basketball games, keeping times at track meets, and he was involved with Perry Central yearbook committee and Academic Teams.
Junior looked forward to putting up his martin boxes and sitting and watching them every evening. He enjoyed IU basketball, going to NASCAR races with friends, playing golf , hunting and fishing. Much of his time was spent attending events his grandchildren participated in. Junior was an avid gardener and loved going to auctions.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Carol Flamion; his son, Kelly Flamion (La Dawn); daughter, Shannon Kratzer (Stacy); grandchildren, Jordyn Flamion and Alec and Cayden Kratzer; siblings, Brenda Pund (Joe), Kenny Flamion (Jane), Trudy Esarey (Norvin), Jerry Flamion (Beth), Ramona Simpson (Larry), Kevin Flamion (Debra) and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a very special “thank you” to Heart to Heart Hospice, who were always amazing with the care they provided to Junior.
