Donald Earl “Don” House passed away April 5, 2026.
He was born November 24, 1936, in Hancock County, KY to Elmont House and Thelma (Nugent) House.
Don was united in marriage on June 15, 1963, to Marjorie Poehlein. Don graduated from Beechmont High School in 1955 and later, he served his country in the US Army. He had worked at Tell City Chair Company and retired in 1998 from the former Southern Indiana R.E.C. as a warehouseman after 33 years of service.
He was a 50 + year member of Deer Creek Baptist Church in Tell City, where he served on the Deacon board, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Don was a kindhearted man, who never met a stranger. He enjoyed listening to and watching UK basketball, and spending time with his family, traveling, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Don’s family would like to thank Perry County Memorial Hospital, Dr. Marcrum, and Heart to Heart Hospice, as well as friends and neighbors, for their kindness and care.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Margie House; a son, Tim House of Tell City, and daughter, Tammy Bruner (Brian) of Tell City; two grandchildren, Alex Bruner (fiancé, Zenah Awamleh), and Sydney Bruner, all of Champaign, IL, and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings, Russell, Jerry and Dale House, Mary Evelyn Rice, Delores Gibbs, Nancy “Dean” Nugent and Merle Quinn.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM CDT on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Deer Creek Baptist Church, located at 6733 Alamo Road in Tell City. Rev. Dr. Elmer Shelby and Pastor David Barrett will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 2939.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Deer Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Condolences may be left for Don’s family at www.huberfuneralhome.net
