Listen to Obituary

Donald H. Huntington, 85, passed away at his home on Friday, July 10, 2026.

He was born in Yakima, Washington on August 1, 1940, a son of Edwin C. and Julia A. (Williams) Huntington.

Don graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle, Washington. On September 20, 1969, Don was united in marriage to Mercedes Arzabe in Washington, D.C. Most of his life, he worked in the hotel industry as a General Manager for Holiday Inn and Days Inn hotels and retiring as a Food and Beverage Manager at the William F. Bolger Center in Potomac, Maryland.

He was an avid sports fan; he loved the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Nationals and Washington Redskins. His greatest love was for tennis. While living in Maryland, he played regularly in a local league and loved watching Wimbledon and the US Open.

Don knew how to make an excellent soft-boiled egg, was a connoisseur of cantaloupe (usually with a little extra salt and pepper), and could identify any classic American car from the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. Most importantly, Don was often a guiding light for his sons-in-law and nephews who married into a family of stubborn but dedicated and loving Latin women. Because of his dedication to the Latin women in his life, he was dubbed, "King of the Gringos"

Don and his wife settled in the Tell City area in 2022 where they became members of St. Paul Catholic Church. They were also familiar faces at Everbody's Fun and Fitness Center for Chair Yoga at least twice a week.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mercedes Huntington; daughters, Luz Huntington-Moskos (Rob) and Linda Huntington Ray (Alex); grandchildren, Violet and Catalina Moskos and Jack, Luke and Mark Ray and sisters-in-law, Judy Huntington and Karen Huntington.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Judy Huntington and his brothers, Ed Huntington and Gary Huntington.
