Francis P. "Frank" Coyle, age 79, peacefully passed away on January 24, 2026, at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City. He was born on January 11, 1947, to Henry and Martha (Mitchell) Coyle. A proud member of the community, Frank was a 1966 graduate of Cannelton High School and honorably served in the National Guard for nearly 20 years.
In 1968, Frank married Rosemary Farmer, who preceded him in death in 2000. Together, they built a life enriched by family, joy, and laughter. A Boilermaker, Frank dedicated many years to his work as a welder at Corn Island Shipyard and shared his expertise by teaching welding at Ivy Tech Community College.Known for his playful spirit, Frank was an instigator of laughter, always ready with a joke or a mischievous prank. He was enthusiast of Bigfoot and enjoyed hunting for the cultural icon. His love for music and the joy he found in being surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren defined his life. Frank also loved his pug, Buster who was his constant side kick and he looked forward to his coffee talks and car rides with his brother, Jim. An extraordinary carpenter, he had a passion for flipping old houses in Cannelton, a passion that remained close to his heart even after a stroke challenged his ability to take on new projects. Frank was also a devoted member of Freewill Baptist Church in Cannelton.
He is survived by his children, Jermie Coyle (Michelle), Jeff Coyle, Jodie Lottes, and Jennifer Mattingly; his sisters, Darlene Hoffman, Mary Sims, Starr Ramsey, Patti Coyle and Kay Houghland (Karl); and his brothers, Jim Coyle (Suzi) and Dan Coyle (Chery). He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren: Jermie, Isiah, Joseph, Bailey, Tyler, Kassidy, Dameon and Jeremiah Coyle; Kelsey Hanks; Lauren Coyle; Calyssa Harpenau; Autumn Critchelow; Hunter Lottes; Leandra Faulkenberg; Laneyah Whalen; McKenzee Perkins; and McKaylee Dixon, as well as 28 great-grandchildren.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Rosemary, granddaughter Caitlin Brielle Coyle, and great-grandchildren Watson Noel and Nora Noel Harpenau.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM CST on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Freewill Baptist Church in Cannelton. Tim Gaynor will officiate. Burial will follow in New Cliff Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
