Franklin S. Weatherholt died on April 19, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. He had celebrated his 90th birthday with his family earlier that weekend.
On April 19,1936, he was born to Frank Sherman and Anna (May) Weatherholt in the still existing farmhouse in Tobinsport. As the youngest of four children, he was the target of many pranks; however, he was quite the prankster himself, even up until his last breath.
Frank was a proud member of Wadesville High School Class of 1954. He later met the love of his life, Jessie Lee Poehlein. They were married in Tell City on June 2, 1957, at Evangelical United Church of Christ. They shared 49 years together until Jessie’s unexpected death in 2006.
Franklin worked his way through school at Evansville College where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. Mr. Weatherholt was a science teacher and audio-visual specialist at F. J. Reitz High School for over 33 years. After his retirement in 1995, Franklin enjoyed beekeeping, farming, hunting, and fishing. Many family and friends enjoyed his fried crappie with special red horseradish sauce.
Survivors include his children, Kimberley (Bradley) Salmon, Franklin Eric Weatherholt, and Mary-Jayne (John) Puckett. He was so very proud of his granddaughter, Kelsey (Samuel) Gerhardt and his great grandchildren, Magdeline Jessie and August Henry Gerhardt. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Barbara Weatherholt, Judith (Dennis) Bays, and John (Joyce) Poehlein also survive, along with numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He enjoyed the company of the Class of ’54 and special friend, Joyce (Byrd) Budesheim.
Franklin was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie; his parents; his siblings Lillian (Roy) Rutledge, Jack Weatherholt and Bill (Joyce) Weatherholt and his sister-in-law, Faye (Varner) Poehlein.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CDT on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Burial to immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Tobinsport Cemetery Association, c/o Patricia Jones, 3976 E. State Rd. 66, Cannelton, IN, 47520, where Frank served as Vice-President for several years.
