Tell City, Indiana –
Guy Neil Ramsey, 96, passed away on July 30, 2024, to join the love of his life, LaVerne, in heaven.
Guy Neil was born on August 8, 1927, in Cloverport, Kentucky, the son of Dorothy and James Henry Ramsey. Within two years, Guy Neil moved to Southern Indiana with his family where he attended a one-room schoolhouse in Millstone. He graduated from Cannelton High School and studied at Indiana University.
He enlisted in the Army in August 1945 and served in World War II. He was a paratrooper and was stationed in Sendai, Japan as a member of the occupational forces.
He married LaVerne Roos in 1951. They raised six children in Tell City and were married for 68 happy years. They were active members of St. Paul Catholic Church.
Guy Neil was successful in business, starting as a homebuilder after his service and moving into commercial construction. He migrated into real estate development and was well known in the healthcare space as a builder of nursing homes.
He was known to his family, friends, employees and business partners for his determination, nerve, fairness, faith, and, most importantly, his love for LaVerne and his family. Guy Neil made it his purpose to be a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, teaching in equal measure through his words and steadfast example.
He is survived by his children Dennis (Georgia Morris), Mark (Kathy Sabelhaus), Chris (Karen), Neil (Anne), Lisa Acchiardo (Rod), and Mary Grace Ramsey; his sister, Jean Zellers; his grandchildren, Lita Oberhausen, Lauren Hartz, Adam Ramsey, Nathan Ramsey, Guy Ramsey, Sarah Ramsey, Ryan Ramsey, John Ramsey, Mary Ramsey, Joe Acchiardo, Paul Acchiardo, and Laura Acchiardo; and 15 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, James Henry and Dorothy (Dowell) Ramsey; his brothers, Jerry in infancy, Jimmy, Kenneth, and David Ramsey and two sisters, Henriella Bynon and Gloria Shephard; and great grandson, Noah Merrill Reno.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Friday, August 2, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary Cemetery where there will be military rites.
Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday and from 8:00 until 9:30 AM on Friday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church.
