Jane Allene Varner, 76, passed away on April 14, 2026, at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh.
She was born in Kirksville, Missouri on August 15, 1949, daughter of John and Florence “Allene” (Yantis) Dickenson. She was a 1967 graduate of Cannelton High School and attended University of Evansville.
Jane retired as a billing clerk for the Cannelton Utilities for 34 years, where she always greeted customers with her pleasant smile and helpful personality. She had also worked at Perry County Memorial Hospital, P.N. Hirsch Dept. Store and First Cannelton National Bank.
She was a lifelong member of Cannelton Gospel Tabernacle where she enjoyed volunteering. She also loved to go camping and fishing. Jane always looked forward to visits from her family and going to Lake Superior to look for rocks.
Surviving is her husband, Jeff Varner; children, Julie Miller Ashby (Chris Greenwood), Barbara Miller Jones (Chad Hisch), Jenny Chappell (Jerry), Jessica Bugg (Sean) and Jodi Schroeder (Matthew); grandchildren, Jackson Ashby (Alivia), Max Ashby (Presleigh Baggett), Cooper Ashby (Andi Albin), Ava Ashby, Reese Ashby, Christian Jones (Lexi Mack), Holly Pate (Wes), Heather Chappell, Cameron Chappell and Hailey Chappell; a brother, J. Terry Dickenson (Phyllis) and several great grandchildren and three nephews.
Preceding her in death were parents; a son, PFC Mark A. Miller; brother, Joe L. Dickenson and sister-in-law, Mary Dickenson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Dea Goad will officiate. Burial will follow in New Cliff Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cannelton Gospel Tabernacle Church.
