Joe Adkins, 74, passed away on March 4, 2024 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.


He was born on May 12, 1949 in Owensboro, Kentucky to James and Effie “Thelma” (Cambron) Adkins, who precede him in death.


Joe graduated from Cannelton High School, in 1967 and also from Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He was a police officer for the Tell City Police Department, retiring in 2013 and served the people of Perry County as deputy coroner for many years. Joe was currently working as an attendant at Super Wash Car Wash. There, he could do what he truly loved, which was visiting with people, especially talking about old times around town. He also enjoyed meeting with his buddies every morning at McDonalds for breakfast.


Joe was a corvette enthusiast. He would typically make his on-call schedules at work around a car show or corvette event. He was a member of the Corvette Lovers of Owensboro, Corvettes of Bowling Green and was a lifetime member of the National Corvette Museum. Joe was also a member of the Indiana State Sheriffs’ Association.


Surviving are his children, Cindy Herrmann (‘Pork”), Bob Adkins (Bobbie) and Ron Adkins, all of Tell City; his companion, Jeanie George, Tell City; sisters, Bonnie Wene, Soddy Daisy, TN and Sharon Alvey (Ronnie), Indianapolis; grandchildren, Evan "Skippy" Adkins, James Adkins (Jaylynn Bryant), Lainey Rose and Rylan Monroe Adkins and Jeff Kendall.


Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM CST on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Ronnie Alvey will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Hawesville, KY.


Visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00-7:00 PM and Friday from 9:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Perry County Coroner’s Office.
