John T. "J.T." York, 87, passed away on December 30, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Perry County on December 26, 1932, son of the late Alma "Bandy" and Iva (Thompson) York. Also preceding him in death were his twin siblings in infancy, William and Wilma; brother, Alvin York; daughter in law, Cindy McLain York and son in law, Patrick Ramsey. A U.S. Air Force veteran, J.T. was a member of American Legion Post #213. He retired in 1991 as a purchasing agent from the former Commonwealth Aluminum where he had been employed for over 25 years. He was an active member of Evangelical United Church of Christ where he had been a church council member, having served as president and was still an usher until recently. Spending time with his family and visiting with friends meant the most to J.T., as he never met a stranger. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets, hunting and fishing and watching RFD T.V., a country music channel. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Helen C. York; children, Steven York, Tell City, John York (Kathy), Ormond Beach, Florida, Sharon York ("Farmer"), Marilyn York, Pat York, all of Tell City and Jeff York (Bev), Troy; grandchildren, Jami York Hernandez (Will) and J.T. York II; sisters, Mary Sutton and Betty Seifert (Marvin) Rome and brother, Bud York. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery where there will be military rites conducted. Rev. Jeff McCarn and Rev. Paul Alvey will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ Benevolent Fund.
