Listen to Obituary

Katherine Wilborn, 82, passed away on April 20, 2026.

Kathy was born February 13, 1944, in Russellville, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Lucille (Long) Bush.

Her family, always on the receiving end of her kind, caring nature, was not surprised when Kathy earned her degree in nursing from Murray State University in 1964. She went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing while living and working in North Carolina. Throughout her long nursing career, Kathy pursued continuing education opportunities and received several specialty certifications to hone her craft. She committed her life to caring for her patients and her family.

Kathy was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 1984 under Governor Collins to be an ambassador of goodwill. Everyone who knew her knew her goodness.

Kathy also had an adventurous spirit. She took flight lessons for fun, and her grandchildren have the fondest memories of their summers exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains together; sifting for gems, swimming in the creeks and getting into a few heated rounds of miniature golf.

She is survived by her sons, Michael A. “Mickey” Wilborn (Stacy) and Michael “Steven” Wilborn; grandchildren, Alex Alstott (Hayden), Nathan Wilborn (Lejend) and Liz Flynn (Brad); great grandchildren, Aria and Ethan Wilborn, Reece and Matilda “Tilly” Alstott and Elijah Flynn; sisters, Barbara Soyars and Jayne Freeman; and brothers, Wayne Bush (Pat) and Jay Bush (Barbara).

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael E. Wilborn and her parents.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Huber Funeral Home is assisting Katherine’s family with arrangements.
