Leopold, Indiana
Larry A. James, 65, passed away on April 30, 2024 at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville.
He was born in Tell City on March 1, 1959, son of Lawrence and Mary Margaret (Hanaway) James, who preceded him in death.
Larry was a 1977 graduate of Perry Central High School where he played trumpet in the band. He and his family enjoyed music and were very musically inclined. He retired from Sanders Sawmill in Corydon where he was a sawyer most of his life. From an early age, Larry would go to school and later work nightshift at Jobe Sawmill.
He was a member of Central-Perry Volunteer Fire Department for more than 45 years and served as President for 40 years. He was also a member of Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association and served on the board of Leopold Conservation Club for more than 40 years.
Larry loved being with his friends, especially at his family cabin, where they would play euchre and deer hunt. He enjoyed their trips out west to elk hunt and to Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. Larry loved to attend Perry Central athletics, especially boys’ basketball.
Surviving is his brother, Roger L. James of Leopold, several cousins and many friends and neighbors in the Leopold community who were like family to Larry and Roger.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Brian Esarey will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday from 3:00-7:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Leopold Conservation Club, Central-Perry Volunteer Fire Department or Perry Central Athletics.
