Max York, 78, of Eaton, Ohio and formerly of Magnet, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on February 3, 1947, the son of Glenward McGinty “Max” and Ada Willetta “Billie” (Harpe) York.
After 30 years, Max retired from the Hamilton Public School System. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the National Geographic Society. He loved gardening, rock collecting, camping, and traveling. He had an emotional connection to Africa. He raised Wheaten Terriers for fourteen years. Max loved spending time on the farm, especially with his favorite horse “Rocky”. Most of his time was spent enjoying life with his family and his many friends from all walks of life.
Survived by his partner of 57 years, Bill Melloh; sisters, Janice Sue (Bill) Hamilton, Bonnie Rae (Lewis) Brock, Shannon Lynn (Brad) McGinness, and Sherri Ann McAlister; sister-in-law, Nancy Melloh; nieces and nephews, Michelle Ritchey, Shane George, David George, Paige Little, Amy Chambers, Nathan Combs, Chelsey Hatfield, Erin McAlister, Natasha McAlister, Jessica Lee, Jeff, Mike, Todd, Chad, and Andy Melloh; several great nieces and nephews, an extended family and a wide circle of friends. Max wouldn’t want us to forget his companion, Banjo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sondra Kaye York, in 1944, and a brother-in-law, Bud Melloh.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 2:00 until 5:00 PM EST at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM CST on Monday, March 3, 2025, in St. Mary's Cemetery in Derby. Huber Funeral Home is assisting Max’s family with his burial.
