Tell City, Indiana Michael D. "Mike" Barnett, 69, passed away June 10, 2021 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Seymour, Indiana on January 23, 1952, son of the late David and Eula (Douglass) Barnett. Mike was united in marriage on August 2, 1975 to Janie Lou Bruce in Seymour. He earned his Bachelor and Master's Degrees in Education from Indiana State University. In 1995, he retired as a teacher and coach from Tell City-Troy Township School Corporation. He continued coaching for several years after retirement, especially enjoying football. Mike loved sports and was a member of the Indiana Football Coaches Association for over thirty years. He collected trains, as his grandfather was a conductor and Mike was always fascinated by his grandfather's adventures and travels on the railways. When their boys were young, the family holds fond memories of summer trips to baseball parks and the Smokey Mountains. Mike was a member of Tell City First Baptist Church where he had been a Trustee. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Janie L. Barnett, Tell City; sons, Sean Michael Barnett and Christopher Ryan Barnett, both of Evansville; a granddaughter, Crystal Renee Aubenque and a sister, Judy Gable, Elkart. Preceding him in death, other than his parents, were sisters, Nancy Johnson and Patricia Bogart. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with visitation from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Wednesday. Pastor Dan Hopkins will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Tell City First Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
