Rita Scales

Listen to Obituary

Rita (Coultas) Scales, 72, of Georgetown, KY, formerly of Tell City, entered her heavenly home on April 11, 2026.

A woman of deep faith and a heart full of love, she spent her life devoted to her family and her faith. Born to John and Philipine (Veatch) Coultas, she was a proud resident of Perry County for most of her life before moving to Kentucky in 2022.

On March 6, 1970, she married Edward Scales, and they shared thirty-six beautiful years together until his passing in 2007.

Rita was a woman of simple, joyful pleasures. She was rarely found without a good book in her hand or a crochet project on her lap. She had a famous affinity for Dr. Pepper and never turned down her favorite Little Debbie snacks. She loved nothing more than a day out shopping and "getting a bite to eat" with those she loved.

After moving to Kentucky, she became a beloved fixture at the Scott County Senior Citizen program, where she leaves behind many dear friends.

While Rita was a wife, mother and sister, her favorite role was being "Mamaw" and "Me-mo". She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Scales, parents, John and Philipine Coultas and brothers, Tom and Bill Vaught.

Rita is survived by her three daughters, Hellen (Freddie) Harrison, Nancy (Jason) Hoch, all of Tell City and Amanda (Aeron) Finke of Georgetown, KY; grandchildren, Jess (Courtney) Harrison, Cody (Cammy) Finke, Lauren Finke, Lincoln and Abram Hoch; great-grandchildren, Mia and Ava Harrison; and a sister, Donna Stallings of Evansville .

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Pastor Mike Johnson will officiate. With burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 PM and Thursday 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Scott County (KY) Senior Citizens.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Scott County, KY EMS and First Responders for their care.

A special note of gratitude goes to April Wise, whose devotion to Mom went far beyond her role as a caregiver. April cared for her with genuine love and a helping hand that knew no limits, and the family is so grateful for the beautiful friendship they shared.
