Ronnie Shartzer

Ronald Lee “Ronnie” Shartzer, 58, passed away on August 6, 2026, at Owensboro Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Hardinsburg, Kentucky on September 19, 1967, son of Howard and Beverly (Hickenbottom) Shartzer.

Ronnie will be remembered as a generous man who loved to help people and make others laugh. His big personality blessed him with never meeting a stranger and no matter where they traveled, Marita said he would always run into someone he knew.

Ronnie loved tending to his vegetable garden every year, camping and fishing. Spending time with family was something he always enjoyed but most importantly, Ronnie was a born-again believer. He loved his Savior and relied on his strong faith. He was a member of Hancock Christian Church.

Surviving is his companion of 14 years, Marita Hendershot; brothers, Bruce Shartzer (Donna), Doug Shartzer (Shirley), Howard Shartzer (Steffanie) and Timmy Shartzer (Tammy); sisters, Christine Grimstead (George), Janet O’Reilly (Pat), Lottie Dowell (Frankie), Iva Marie Williams (Glenn) and Wanda Dowell (Bradley). Also surviving are Marita’s family who loved as his own, including her children, Travis Applegate (Kellie), Robyn Brown (Heath) and Preston Hendershot; her grandchildren that Ronnie adored, Levi and Mason Applegate, Taylin Ivey and Rory Brown; her siblings, Anita Batie, Karen Myers, Steve Preston, Chad Preston and Wayne Preston (Kelli Audd).

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Rickey Lynn Shartzer.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026,  from 9:00 -11:00 AM at Hancock County Christian Church, 22 Henderson Grove Road, Lewisport, Kentucky. Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, is assisting Ronnie’s family with his care.
