Shannan M. Sturgeon, 56, passed away on May 28, 2025, at Owensboro (KY) Regional Health Hospital.
She was born in Tell City, Indiana on October 30, 1968. She was a was a 1986 graduate of Tell City High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Vincennes University.
In September of 2024, Shannan retired as Major from Branchville Correctional Facility where she worked for over 33 years. She started working at Branchville in 1991 and held several titles including: Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Unit Team Manager and Major, which is responsible for overall security of the facility. She was proud of her accomplishments and appreciated her co-workers, considering them like family.
She attended Indiana Department of Correction’s Experience Emerging Leadership Academy and was a member of IDOC/Situation Control Team, Emergency Response Team (E-Squad) and IDOC-OUT team. Shannan had received fire department training and had served as the Affirmative Action Coordinator. She received Supervisor of the Quarter in 2019, numerous Cash Spot bonuses and letters of recognition for her hard work and dedication to Branchville Correctional Facility.
She enjoyed camping, watching WNBA and her dogs, Max, Tessa and Olive.
Surviving is her mother, Marcia Shearn; a brother, Shawn Sturgeon (Dia); nephew, Dallas Sturgeon; niece, Autumn Ashley (Beau) and great nieces and nephews, Adrianna, Brynlee, Aiden and Baylor Ashley.
Preceding her in death was her father, Herb Sturgeon and her grandmother, Mary Arnold.
Visitation for Shannan will be on Monday, June 2, 2025, from 3:00-7:00 PM CDT at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.
