Shelby Young

Shelby W. Young, 92, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

He was born in Hancock County, Kentucky on April 13, 1933, and was the son of Claudie Fred and Clara (Nix) Young.

Shelby served his country, from 1950-1954, during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Mae Stowe on January 2, 1960, at Blackford Baptist Church in Hancock County, Kentucky. They were married for forty-one years before her death in 2001.

In 1995, he retired from Commonwealth Aluminum where he worked for twenty-nine years. He had also worked for several years at Tell City Chair Company.

Shelby liked to travel, work puzzles, go camping or spend an afternoon cutting firewood. He loved his family and was a man of great faith. He was joyously looking forward to the day he could meet his Savior, his wife and daughter again.

Survivors include his sons, Duane Young (Karen) and Tim Young (Bonnie); grandchildren, Daniel Myrick (Amber), Nicole Garbarino (Tony), Ariana Young (Ruben Larach), Erika Flake (Nick) and Cameron Young and great grandchildren, Wyatt, Weston and Wynonna Myrick and Jameson Flake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Young; daughter, Cheryl Young; sisters, Mildred Hatfield and Georgia Pearl Young; and brothers, Henry, Dick, Victor and Clay Young.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CST on Friday, January 30, 2026,at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel, with burial in New Cliff Cemetery. Bro. Larry Sosh will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Friday.
