Steven “Steve” Allen Conner

October 20, 1958 – October 11, 2024

Steven "Steve" Allen Conner, age 65, of Cannelton, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 11th, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. Steve was born in Tell City, Indiana, on October 20th, 1958, to Allen and Maureen Conner.

Growing up, Steve moved around the southern states, where he developed a natural curiosity for how things worked. One of his early passions was taking apart and fixing machines, like the family lawnmower, which set the foundation for a lifelong talent. He also had a deep love for football, playing with great pride both in Memphis, Tennessee, and later in Tell City, Indiana, often reminiscing about those days.

Steve’s ability to repair just about anything evolved into a successful career in welding, industrial maintenance, and as a plant manager. Watching him dismantle complex machinery only to skillfully put it back together was nothing short of amazing. Rarely did a piece of equipment cross his path that he couldn’t fix, a talent that defined his professional life.

In his younger years, Steve had a competitive streak, racing motocross bikes and bowling with friends. His love for fast cars and racing carried into his later years, where he enjoyed watching NASCAR, always rooting for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. Steve also loved spending time outdoors, whether fishing or boating, the water called to him. Tinkering in his garage was a favorite pastime, whether it was repairing cars or fixing anything that needed his attention.

On July 4th, 2012, Steve married Sharon Drake, and together they built a quiet, peaceful life in the countryside of Cannelton, Indiana. Their home was surrounded by the beauty of nature, and Steve found joy in simple pleasures like fishing in their pond or spending time working on projects around the house. Sharon and Steve shared a deep bond, united by their love of the outdoors and the tranquility of their rural life. Steve took pride in the life they built together, cherishing the moments of peace they enjoyed side by side.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Allen Conner, in 1985. He is survived by his mother, Maureen (Duane) Houle; his loving wife, Sharon Drake; and his children, Athena (Jeremy) McCarty and Alicia (Robert) Justice. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Melissa (Jesse) Woods and Nicholas Dauby, as well as his grandchildren Adrienne McCarty, Caroline McCarty, and Robert Justice. Steve’s siblings, Gina (Gregg) Veller, Kathy (Joe) Wiram, Mark (Erin) Conner, and Maurice Conner, also survive him, along with many extended family members and close friends.

A celebration of life for close friends and family will be announced at a later date. Huber Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
