Steven W. Simpson, 76, passed away on December 9, 2025, at Owensboro (KY) Regional Health Hospital.

He was born in Tell City, a son of Elery V. and Evelyn L. (Howell) Simpson. Steve graduated in 1967 from Perry Central High School, a member of the first class to be at the new school.

In 1969, Steve was united in marriage to Linda Harper at Lilly Dale Church on May 17, 1969. They were married for 44 years until her death in 2013.

Steve was employed as a truck driver, retiring in 2011 from K.C. Transport. He also worked as a driver for several years at Can-Clay and later at SIRS.

Steve was a member of the Cannelton Volunteer Fire Department from 1988 until 2007 when he retired as Captain.

In later years, you could find Steve sitting in his swing on the front porch of his Fourth Street home. He looked forward to visits from his family and friends, especially when his two great grandsons

would run up to him screaming “Papaw” and want to share their snacks with him.

Surviving him are his children, Susie Entwistle (Brian), Jeff Simpson (Jennifer), Ryan Simpson (Sandra) and Eric Simpson (Holly); siblings, Sharon Garner (Alan), Larry Simpson (Ramona), Kathy Grimes (Monte), Rick Simpson (Dorothy), Deb Wiedenhoeft and Tim Simpson; grandchildren, Ashley Westerman (Chuck), Kirra Entwistle, Charlotte Entwistle, Jackson Froning, Maddie Simpson, Tyler Baur, Dylan Simpson, Xavier Simpson and Maddox Simpson; great grandsons, Xavier Richardt and Timmy Richardt; nieces and nephews and companion, Joann Morgan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Elery and Evelyn Simpson; wife, Linda Simpson and great grandson, Steven Emery.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Lilly Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Friday. Ron Ammons will officiate.

Steve will be fondly remembered for his love of the Christmas season when he played Santa in the Cannelton Christmas Parade and for many other children and their families during the holidays.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cannelton Volunteer Fire Department and United Way’s Angel Tree.
