Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Willie "Randle" Story, 75, passed away on May 20, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville.

He was born in Albany, Kentucky on December 19, 1950, a son of Willie Edward and Vera Christina (Cowan) Story. He retired from Peerless Pottery in Rockport where he worked in the fabrication shop.

Randle had a life long love for restoring and driving hot rod cars. He was barely in double digits and definitely not old enough to do so legally when he began driving. Randle mastered the art of repairing or rebuilding most anything with wheels and served as a mentor to countless young car enthusiasts. Randle often expressed his love for his grandchildren by helping them take care of their cars. He always looked forward to warm weather because that meant that car cruise-ins (certainly not to be mistaken for "car shows") and the Evansville Frog Follies would be gearing up. He also enjoyed going to Somerset, Kentucky for an annual cruise-in. Randle also was an excellent tomato gardener. Folks would beg, steal, and barter for a can of his homemade salsa.

His surviving family members include his daughters, Angela Sartin (Wayne) and Lena Tabor (Brandon); grandchildren, Emma and Elijah Sartin, Joshua Gaynor, Donavon Tabor and Austin Vincent; sisters, Shirley Sabelhaus and Jackie "Tina" Story and several nieces and nephews.

Randle was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Phyllis Gaynor, Sharon Underhill, Wanda Cronin, Donald Wayne Story in infancy, Gib Story and Jim Story.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM CST on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Talbott Funeral Home in Albany, Kentucky. Burial will follow in Craig Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time on Friday at Talbott Funeral Home. Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, is assisting the family with these arrangements.
