Winfield S. Thomas, 90, passed away at his home on December 7, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Gatchel (in Perry County) on July 1, 1935, to David Winfield and Lala (Snider) Thomas. He graduated from Chrisney High School in 1954 and was united in marriage to Donna Perryman on June 12, 1962.
After graduation, Winfield worked construction and drove a milk truck for Kraft and a fuel truck for Wayne Jones. In 1970, he bought a Marathon Distributorship, later selling in 1988, for Marathon Fuels and then Superior Ag until his retirement in 2000. A lifelong farmer, Winfield especially loved working with his cattle.
Winfield was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church in Newtonville where he had served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent and teacher and was treasurer for many years. He was also a trustee and treasurer for New Hope Cemetery in Newtonville. He was a 40-year member of the Rebekah’s, a 70-year member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge and a member of The Gideons International. He found comfort in Isaiah 40:8- King James Version, his favorite verse with Gideons.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna Thomas of Grandview; three sons, Bob Thomas (Peggy) of Leopold, Richard Thomas (Renee) of Newtonville and Chris Thomas (Stephanie) of Cannelton; grandchildren, Dane Thomas (Taylor), Wendy East ( Brent), Sally Boyd (Danny), Robbi Duvall (Cortdell), Maggie Lynn Farris (Justin), Garrett Thomas (Leah), Mason Thomas, Colby Thomas (Kaitlyn) and Breanna Thomas; great grandchildren, Eryn Oden (Luke), Ryder, Raiden and Aurora Thomas, Cody and Daniel Boyd, Houston Thomas, Tucker Roesler, Brennen and Breckin East, Amelia Duvall, Deacon and Asher Farris, Granger Thomas and two more arriving soon; one great-great grandchild, Esther Oden.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Mary Fuqua and Grace Weatherholt; brothers, John, David and Dewey Thomas and a great grandson, Judson Lynn Farris.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CST on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at New Hope Baptist Church in Newtonville with burial in the church cemetery. Brother Brian Bailey will officiate.
Visitation will bel held on Wednesday from 2:00-7:00 PM CST at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel and on Thursday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon Internation, Perry or Spencer Counties Lyon’s Club or New Hope Cemetery, Newtonville.
