Cannelton, Indiana –
Maria Elizabeth “Marie” Stockrahm, 94, passed away peacefully early Christmas morning, at Oakwood Health Campus, her home for the last ten years.
She was born in her beloved Cannelton on January 4, 1926 to Philip and Elizabeth (Burns) Wittmer and was the youngest of their four children.
Marie graduated from Cannelton High School in 1945 and married Glenn Stockrahm at St. Michael Catholic Church on September 2, 1950.
She will be fondly remembered for being a friendly face at Malcomson’s 5 & 10 Store from the 1940’s until it closed in 1983. Many children, now adults, will remember her from their lunch time visits to buy candy. She was creative, personable and loved meeting people. She truly loved her job for over forty years.
She was a wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews. Marie loved animals, especially her dogs, Minnie and Hoosier. She and her husband even had a monkey for several years.
Marie was a dedicated enthusiast to her hometown of Cannelton and loved participating in any activities the city offered. Crafting, yard sales and keeping her yard manicured to perfection were her hobbies. She was an avid supporter of Indiana University basketball during Bobby Knight’s reign.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Alice Wittmer and several special nieces and nephews for whom she loved dearly, including Tonya Hafele, Cannelton and Sheila Hargis, Derby, who were her caregivers since the death of her husband.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Stockrahm and her brothers, Jacob, Burns and Walter Wittmer.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Michael Cemetery. There will be no visitation at Huber Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael Cemetery or Alzheimer’s Association.
