Norman D. Freeman, 95, passed away on June 30, 2022 at Oakwood Health Campus.

He was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on September 22, 1926 to Otis and Cecile (Thomas) Freeman.

Norman was a 1944 graduate of Tell City High School. He was united in marriage on December 28, 1944 to Verna Kieser.  Soon after marriage, Norman was drafted into the military where he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He had worked at Tell City Chair Company for more than 44 years, retiring in 1995. One of his greatest honors was being asked to reproduce a specific style chair for the White House that First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy requested.  Norman became known as being one of the best woodworkers around and after retirement, he continued his woodworking skills by making bowls, clocks and furniture. He also enjoyed needlepoint.

A member of Good Sam Camping Club, Norman loved to camp. He liked to take vacations with family and friends and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving is his son, Tom Freeman (Linda), Tell City; grandchildren, Wendy Freeman-Chann (Mike), Craig Freeman (Shana), all of Owensboro and Kelly Freeman-Gray (Bobby), Tell City; great grandchildren, Rory and Juniper Chann and Aubrey and Will Chann.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Verna Freeman in 2020; brothers, Arnold and Eugene Freeman and half-sisters, Martha Williams and Laura Daniels.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Luke Waugh will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3:00-8:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:00-10:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or American Heart Association.
